Subject: Disclaimer for the use of the Google Maps API
The Department of the Interior (DOI) and the US Geological Survey rely on tools and services from Google. Recently Google has updated the terms and conditions for the use of the Google Maps Application Programming Interface (API).
On June 23, 2010 the DOI issued guidance advising that any web site using the Google Maps API now include a disclaimer.
The disclaimer is:
References to non-U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) products do not constitute an endorsement by the DOI. By viewing the Google Maps API on this web site the user agrees to these TERMS of Service set forth by Google.
"TERMS" in the disclaimer text must be linked to the most recent terms and conditions set by Google at http://code.google.com/apis/maps/terms.html.
For additional information on the use of Google software, please refer to the Enterprise GIS web page: http://gio.usgs.gov/egis/google/.
If you have any questions, please contact myself or the USGS Enterprise GIS Team: http://gio.usgs.gov/egis/forms/support_request.html.
This message has been sent to: GS Web, GS IT All, GS GIS Contacts, and GS GIS Talk. If you have employees who individually produce web sites, please forward this information to them.
Thank You.
Paul
