Hi Eric,
I took a quick look at the prototype at work today, but deferred
commenting until I could spend more time at home this evening. I am now
connected via ERas and am unable to see the display. It gets as far as
'Connecting to maps.google.com' and hangs.
Here are some comments from memory:
When you hover the cursor over an event, the only information displayed
is the magnitude. If, for example, there are three M2.0 events on the
map, how do you sort them out? It would be useful to at least display an
event ID. Better yet would be the additional ability to click on the
event to open the event information page as was done on the previous
recenteqs map pages.
One of the really useful things about the old "Quake" recenteqs pages
was that the list of EQs beneath the map was only those EQs displayed on
that map. When I am particularly interested in looking at events near
Mexicali and am zoomed in to the max, I don't need to wade through all
those listed events in Chile, etc.
Paul's comment about magnitude thresholds illustrates the problems of
trying to design a common interface that satisfies everybody's needs. I
can understand why you might want to impose a magnitude threshold for
global views to better reflect a global minimum magnitude detection
level. For regional and local views, however, it is imperative to
display all events >M0.
I'll take another look tomorrow from my office.
Cheers
-Jim
