According to Stan, ENS sent out 107,149 emails for the mainshock, but within the 24 hours including the mainshock, ENS sent a total of 2,326,844 emails. The previous 24-hour record was 975,000.

The mainshock emails took about 63-65 mins to all be sent, but later in the day with so many aftershocks, the ENS database system bogged down and became slower, causing the email sender to have to wait for messages to send from the database.

We do have two solid-state disks to use on the master database and on the primary backend machine that composes the messages to send out, so as soon as those are installed (within the next 1-2 weeks?), things will speed up, although probably not enough to get all the emails out within 15 mins when there is a lot of activity.
