Chris,
I am out of the office this week and do not have access to make changes at
the moment. Verizon sends email when a ticket is opened for USGS and DOI
outages. This could have over 20 messages a day. I can add the group to
that email distribution list to receive the alerts. All of the messages
are general in nature only showing a circuit, city and ticket number in
some cases. This may at least give you an idea that the NOSC has seen the
problem and opened a ticket. You could always call the NOSC for update on
866-376-6672. I also dump all of the Verizon alerts into a Lotus drop box
that I could give access to you and others. This would allow you to
access the drop box and view a list of tickets. The drop box has a long
history file of tickets.
If you are interested in this let me know and I can ask the Lotus team to
make changes to the email alerts and drop box access.

Gary,
Hi, is there some way that we can be informed upon any Reston outages? Do
you have some sort of monitoring software that checks for network activity
and sends a message if it's gone down? If so, could we please be included
on that contact list? I'm thinking EHPWeb at geohazards.usgs.gov would be a
good address to use. Bob / Lisa, what do you think?

Reston Internet ouyage Sunday August 10
There was an Internet access failure in Reston that started about 1 Am
Sunday morning and was not corrected until about 2:30 that afternoon. The
outage was caused by an ESN hardware failure. Even though we successfully
conducted fail over testing last week with the ESN this hardware failure
did not cause an outage in the route thus the traffic was blocked during
the outage.
We called the NOSC and informed them to manually fail USGS traffic to
Reston Internet to force a failure but those requests were not completed.
We are in contact with the DOI ESN operations manager and have requested a
full account of the outage.
