Good day all,

On behalf of the Risk Prediction Initiative (RPI) I am pleased to invite proposals for funded research projects.

RPI is a non-profit research program, within an independent research institution (Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences) that has previously funded research and workshops on the theme of central US seismicity (e.g. http://rpi.bios.edu/research/earthquakes-and-tsunami). We are interested in working with the seismic community in the coming year, specifically on the question of induced seismicity, and more generally on probabilistic analyses of geohazards. We have outlined requests for proposals (RFPs), which can be found here: http://rpi.bios.edu/proposal_upload/upload. Please note that these RFPs are not intended to be an exhaustive list of relevant research; if you have an idea or existing research project which could be of benefit, please submit a proposal.

RPI funds academic research relevant to the insurance and reinsurance industries and assists in translating your research into usable and actionable items for our member companies. Through sponsoring targeted research we offer our members unique access to scientific knowledge aimed at answering business-relevant questions. By stimulating and supporting high-level research on seismic risk, we help you to increase the benefit of your research by turning scientific results into applications widely used in the (re)insurance industry. Specifically, the focus is towards results which yield data sets, code or vulnerability functions for catastrophe modeling.

RPI members will have access to the results of funded projects prior to their published dates, allowing sponsors to benefit from this information in advance of their competitors. Proposals are reviewed by our Members and judged democratically on their merits, relevance, feasibility and applicability to the science questions within the industry.

Please visit our website (http://www.rpi.bios.edu) for further information.

Best regards,

John Wardman
