The 2016 Earthquake Insight Field Trip is planned for Friday afternoon, April 1, through Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016. The agenda will include earthquake issues that are unique to the New Madrid region of the central US. This is the 12th annual Earthquake Insight Field Trip.

This event is planned for non-professionals and professionals alike: geologists, engineers, emergency planners, risk managers, and students. Those who have an interest in the earthquake history and the earthquake hazards of the region will find it especially valuable.

Past participants have included industry professionals who have interests and investments in the region, including transportation, pipelines, infrastructure, market presence, investments and portfolio exposure, agribusiness, insurance, logistics, and more. There are more than 300 alumni from all over the country.

The trip starts in Cahokia, Ill., which is across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Mo. There is no cost other than personal travel expenses, including transportation, hotels, and meals.

Continuing education units may be available.

"Minimizing earthquake risk is a funny business. The payoff may not come for a long time -- and then it will be in terms of what did not happen."
