[CEUS-earthquake-hazards] Article on Central U.S. Earthquake hazard by expert panel

I would appreciate it if someone could comment on a (second-hand)
anecdotal report regarding the failure of seismic hazard maps and the
Wenchuan earthquake: I have heard that older Chinese hazard maps placed
a higher hazard in the area of Sichuan affected by the Wenchuan
earthquake, but that the hazard estimation was reduced in light of GPS
data, which suggested relatively low strain rates in the Wenchuan zone.
I have not seen this confirmed.

This question relates to the broader issue of the potential role of
GPS-based models of earthquake recurrence in seismic hazard estimation
and how best to integrate seismological, paleoseismic, and geodetic data.

Thanks,

Michael Hamburger
