CALL FOR SUGGESTED INPUT

TO THE NEW MADRID EARTHQUAKE SCENARIO (NMES)

The New Madrid Chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) is conducting the NMES for completion by February 2012, the Bicentennial of the Great New Madrid Earthquake Series. The NMES project will conduct its work utilizing in-kind volunteer contributions, conducting meetings on important issues, and encouraging research, but currently has no dedicated funding. The Scenario is being developed collaboratively by participants from a broad range of Central U.S. professional sectors.

A Scenario Resolution Meeting is being held in St. Louis, MO on Friday, November, 7, 2008 to select the specific event(s) that will drive the development of the Scenario. All interested professionals are welcome. The NMES Executive Committee, along with those attending the Resolution Meeting, will finalize the decision on "the Scenario event(s)" and the issues that will be pursued in the development of the Scenario.

We welcome suggestions from the professional community regarding the specific Scenario event(s) as well as the technical issues that need to be resolved by the contributing professional fields. For information on the meeting time and location and/or to provide suggestions please contact Greg Hempen, Project Manager for the NMES (greg_hempen at urscorp.com). Submission of suggestions should be sent to both Greg Hempen (greg_hempen at urscorp.com) and the EERI (eeri at eeri.org). All suggestions will be listed on the NMES website (http://newmadrid.eeri.org/).

Submissions are requested by or before Wednesday, October 29, 2008 and should include your name, a specific title, and a statement of scientific support for the event recommendation or specific scientific or technical issues that should be considered in the development of the Scenario. Send your input to greg_hempen at urscorp.com and eeri at eeri.org .

Regards,
