U.S. Geological Survey, Geologic Hazards Team, Scientist in Charge -
Memphis, TN

 

The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Geologic Hazards Team solicits
applications for a senior scientist to serve as the Scientist-In-Charge of
the Memphis, Tennessee, office, which is co-located with the Center for
Earthquake Research and Information on the University of Memphis campus.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of research
expertise in the area of earthquake studies and will serve as regional
coordinator of the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program (EHP) in the Central and
Eastern United States (CEUS).

 

Applications are invited from all relevant scientific communities, including
civil engineering, geodesy, geology, geotechnical engineering, seismology,
and tectonics. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of earthquake
hazards in continental regions and must be capable of leading a diverse,
multidisciplinary program of earthquake risk reduction.  The primary duties
of the position are to: 1) develop scientific goals and objectives for the
CEUS region; 2) oversee all aspects of the Program's diverse, complex
investigations in the region and coordinate these activities among the
relevant university, State, and private sector entities; 3) lead the USGS
staff in the transfer of earthquake information and research results to a
variety of technical and non-technical users.

 

This is a permanent position open from June 2, to August 1, 2008 and comes
with an annual salary, depending on qualifications, ranging from a $91,781
up to $140,355. The vacancy is interdisciplinary and open under the
following titles and announcement numbers: Geologist (ER-2008-0235),
Geophysicist (ER-2008-0237), Civil Engineer (ER-2008-0239). Complete
