Annual Progress Report - St. Louis Area Earthquake Hazards Mapping Project
The Annual Progress Report of the St. Louis Area Earthquake Hazards Mapping Project will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007, from 1:30 until 4:00 pm. The meeting will be held in Room 209 of the MoDOT Transportation Management Center at 14301 South Outer Forty Road; Town & Country, Mo.
Those working on the project will give brief updates on the recent progress in hazards mapping and database development. More importantly, potential users of the project's products will have the opportunity to make requests, suggestions, and critique the project work to date. Feedback is needed.

"Earthquakes: Mean Business"
The 11th annual "Earthquakes: Mean Business" event will be held on Friday, February 2, at the AT&T Data Center, at 9th and Chestnut in downtown St. Louis. Doors open at 8:00 am; presentations and panel discussion from 8:30 am until noon and break-out sessions from 1:30 pm until 4:00. This free event is an annual outreach effort by the geoscience, engineering, and emergency management communities. There is no cost, but pre-registration is required by e-mailing Tim Bonno at tb8851 at att.com.

The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) has a new, monthly e-newsletter - "Seismic Waves." The January 2007 issue is posted at

Earthquake Insight Field Trip
The second Earthquake Insight Field Trip will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, 2007. The trip will start and end in Memphis, Tenn., and will include visits to sites and sights in northeast Arkansas, southeast Missouri, southernmost Illinois, western Kentucky, and western Tennessee.
The trip is designed for non-scientists, such as business leaders, elected officials, and media - especially those in finance, insurance, equity, portfolio management, utilities, infrastructure, business operations, logistics and distribution, planning and related fields. More than a dozen expert geoscientists, engineers, and planners active in the central US earthquake issue will travel with the group, offering formal presentations as well as one-on-one discussions.

Earthquake Awareness Week at the St. Louis Science Center
More than 25 special exhibits, displays, and demonstrations will be at the St. Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue; St. Louis, Mo.) on Saturday, February 3, 2007. This annual outreach effort, a cornerstone of the annual Missouri Earthquake Awareness Week, is especially for general audiences, K-12 teachers, and kids. "Shaking (Hands) in Jefferson City"
On Tuesday, February 6, 2007, members of the geoscience, engineering, and emergency management communities will visit Jefferson City (Missouri's state capital) to meet with state legislators. Peter Price (573-368-2100) has more information.
