Hello ShakeCast Users,

We have created a number of test events that you can use to test your
ShakeCast notification system. While you can use the tester to create
a test event out of any event that you currently have stored within
ShakeCast, these new events are either larger historic events, or
scenarios that have not been transmitted through ShakeCast.

To use the new tests, connect to the FTP server "ftp.gps.caltech.edu"
and go to the directory "/pub/shake/shakecast/test_data." There is a
README file, and a number of zipped events. Download the events of
interest and unzip them in the directory <shakecast_home>/test_data.
Point your browser at your ShakeCast admin page, and go to the tester.
When you click on "Generate Local Event" you should see the new
event(s) in the list. You can then click on the appropriate link to
trigger the test.

Note that the event type of test events is "TEST," so only
notifications configured to receive test events will be triggered. (If
you switch the event type of some notifications to do a test, remember
to set the event type back to "ACTUAL" when you are done.)

If you would like additional events or scenarios added to those
currently available, let me know. (Note that the Northridge event has
been sent through ShakeCast as a scenario, so everyone should have that
available.) Go to
http://www.shakecast.org/documentation/user/testing/index.html for more
information on creating and running test events.

Bruce

P.S. Thanks to the folks at LA Co. DPW for verifying that the test
events work.
