[ANSS-netops] Operating multiple reftek recorders behind a single static IP.

Hello, I would like to ask how others may have dealt with this.

We have a situation which calls for the operation of several refteks,
behind a single static IP, DSL service. It is my understanding that the
port numbers used for communication with the refteks, are not
configurable. Is this really the case? If communication port numbers
could be changed, the problem would be solved.

Another possibility would be to place some sort of router/firewall,
capable of port translation, between the DSL modem and refteks.
Has anyone ever done anything like this?

We have some small experience here, with the CISCO ASA5505 (Adaptable
Security Appliance). This is a small, 8-port router/firewall, that I
think would be capable of doing the port translation. The cost of such a
unit though is about $600. Is anyone aware of a cheaper, more "consumer"
grade product that could do this?

A related question. Are the port numbers used by the various outside
programs that talk to the reftek configurable?
If not, then a similar firewall/router would be required at both ends.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

thanks, steve.
