Dear ShakeMap users, operators, & developers,
We’re pleased to announce a significant update to the original Wald et al. (2005) ShakeMap Manual. The new ShakeMap <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/>® <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/> Manual <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/> (Worden & Wald, 2016) is online & will be updated continuously. A PDF version <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/introduction.html> of this manual is also available.
The online ShakeMap Manual <applewebdata://8FF00B61-FC9E-488E-A0E9-12DFDC29D7F3/We%20will%20followup%20with%20links%20to%20ShakeMap%20V4%20github%20repository%20so%20you%20can%20catch%20up%20with%20or%20participate%20in%20ShakeMap%20V4%20development.We%20will%20followup%20with%20links%20to%20ShakeMap%20V4%20github%20repository%20so%20you%20can%20catch%20up%20with%20or%20participate%20in%20ShakeMap%20V4%20development.http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/> documents the current version of ShakeMap (V3.5). Those interested in understanding how ShakeMap works can navigate to the Technical Guide <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/technical_guide.html#technical-guide>. Those who want to use ShakeMap products & understand their varied forms can jump to the User’s Guide <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/users_guide.html#users-guide>. If your goal is to install and operate ShakeMap, see the Software & Implementation Guide <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/software_guide.html#software-guide>. The Software & Implementation Guide <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/software_guide.html#software-guide> also points users to the ShakeMap software distribution and Software Guide <http://usgs.github.io/shakemap/_static/SoftwareGuideV3_5.pdf>. We are in the initial stages of developing ShakeMap V4 (pyShake). Ultimately, for ShakeMap V4, the Software Guide will be incorporated into the Manual; for now, it remains a separate document.
As a continuous work-in-progress, we welcome your feedback, comments, & input. For example, updates will be provided over the next few months about regional operations, a section that is currently in incomplete. We will followup later with links to ShakeMap V4 github repository so you can catch up with or participate in ShakeMap V4 development.
Regards,
C. Bruce Worden & David Wald, March 14, 2016 (Pi Day)
