Hi Bruce,
I try to download the Fedora image but the link doesn't work.
I also work in a Ubuntu system and I want to try it. Can you help me?

Best regards,
Jordi

Hi Bruce,

My operating system is Ubuntu. I did what you recommended and it works very well! :-)
Everyone who have problems with the instalation of ShakeMap should try this because is simpler, much more quick, and is a portable way to use ShakeMap!

Thank you very much!!!
Sara

Hi Sara,

I'll ask you the usual questions:

What operating system are you using? We do not recommend Ubuntu -- it is has proven very difficult to get it working.

What version of GMT are you using?

How did you install NetCDF, GMT, and your compiler?
NetCDF, GMT, and ShakeMap must all be compiled with the same compiler and same compiler options, or it will not work. Typically the best way to do this is to use 'port', 'ports', 'yum' or the equivalent on your system, but you can also compile everything from scratch yourself.

If you cannot get ShakeMap to work, you can try the ShakeMap virtual machine we are developing. It is an instance of ShakeMap installed on Fedora. It can be run using the freely-available Virtual Box software. You should be able to have it up and running in a few minutes after downloading Virtual Box and the ShakeMap Fedora image. You'll need to uncompress it with p7zip or 7z or something similar. The ShakeMap user is 'shake' and the password is 'shake'. You can get the image here:

ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/cr/co/golden/lin/ShakeMap%20Portable/ShakeMap_Fedora.zip

Anyone who is struggling with an installation should try this.

Bruce
