*"I**maging Lithospheric Electrical Conductivity Structures across the
Continental United States:*
*Insights into Tectonics, Lithospheric Properties, Crustal Stresses, and
Resource Exploration**"*

*Benjamin S. Murphy*
*Oregon State University, Corvallis*

The EarthScope long-period magnetotelluric (MT) dataset has enabled
unprecedented views of three-dimensional lithosphere-scale electrical
conductivity structures across much of the continental United States. Not
only do these MT images contain important information about lithospheric
architecture in the context of the diverse tectonic history of North
America, but they also provide insights into a surprisingly large range of
other geoscientific problems, including the localization of intraplate
stresses and regional mineral resource exploration. For example, in the
southeastern US, we have used our MT inverse solutions to provide a proxy
for crustal viscosity that we have then used to match the patterns of
intraplate seismicity in that region. In the central US, our MT inverse
solutions provide views into lithosphere-scale mineral systems. In this
talk, I will discuss our MT inverse solutions from specifically the
southeastern US and the US Midcontinent, and I will highlight the insights
these images give us across a range of scales and geoscientific fields.
