Dear colleagues with interest in CEUS earthquake hazard and preparedness,
Dr. Thomas Pratt has been selected as USGS regional coordinator for
the Central and Eastern U.S. Earthquake Hazards Program, replacing Rob
Williams who retired on December 30, 2017.
Many of you know Tom. He is a Geophysicist who brings more than 30
years experience studying and publishing on central and eastern U.S.
geology and earthquake hazards. This includes published papers on New
Madrid, Central VA, southeastern U.S. (Georgia, Charleston), central
U.S. (Missouri to Pennsylvania COCORP transect) and the Atlantic
Coastal Plain. He has extensive experience with ground motion studies
and Atlantic Coastal Plain geology – two of the major issues facing
hazard assessment in the eastern U.S. Tom also brings six years of
experience coordinating and leading review panels for the USGS
external grants program. Tom is looking forward to meeting more of you
over the next year at various meetings.
Please join me in welcoming Tom, who will be based at the USGS in Reston, VA.
