On Tueday, February 5, 2019, the Missouri Geologists' Coalition (MGC) and
the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) of will host the
annual "Shaking Hands in Jefferson City." All geoscientists and friends who
are Missouri residents are invited to meet in the capital to visit state
legislators and advocate on behalf of geoscience and professional geoscience
practice.

The group will convene in the coffee shop of the Capitol Plaza Hotel (415
West McCarty Street) at about 9:00 am on February 5. Bring non-commercial,
geoscience-related handouts to share with legislators. It is planned that
an exhibit also will be placed in the Third Floor Rotunda to share
geoscience information with legislators, staffers, and other visitors to the
Capitol building.

Missouri residents are invited to contact Peter Price (pymprice at rollanet.org
<mailto:pymprice at rollanet.org> ) or Phyllis Steckel (psteckel at charter.net
<mailto:psteckel at charter.net> ) to let organizers know of their interest and
participation. Please pass this invitation on to others you know who may be
interested.

Non-Missouri residents are urged to consider organizing a similar event for
their state legislators.

The "Shaking Hands in Jefferson City" event has been held each year since
1994. Its name has changed, and its scope has morphed several times.
However, the gyst of the event has been consistent: proactive outreach from
the geoscience community to state legislators and leaders.
