Greetings, all.

On Friday, February 1, 2013, the 20th Annual “Earthquakes: Mean Business” program will be held at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Mo.

This event includes nationally recognized speakers who provide geoscience, engineering, planning, business, and policy perspectives regarding earthquake hazards in the central and eastern US.

A morning plenary session and afternoon workshops are planned. About 250-300 professionals are expected. Both PDHs and CEUs will be awarded by Saint Louis University for professional development and continuing education requirements.

If you or your organization is interested in a sponsoring or in having an exhibit at “Earthquakes: Mean Business,” please contact Susan Bloomfield of Saint Louis University at 314-977-8431 or blooms at slu.edu.

It’s still early, but now is the time to make sure you are included in the pre-event planning communications.

Also, mark your calendars: on Saturday, February 2, 2013, the annual “Earthquake Fair” at the St. Louis Science Center is planned. This is an outreach event for the general public from the geoscience and engineering communities. Leadership arrangements are still in progress, and details will follow – just a heads up for now.

Hope to see you at both events!

Cheers,

"Minimizing earthquake risk is a funny business. The payoff may not come for a long time -- and then it will be in terms of what did not happen."
