19th Annual “Earthquakes: Mean Business”
To be held Friday, February 3, 2012, at Saint Louis University
The 19th annual “Earthquakes: Mean Business” event will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012, at Saint Louis University.
The program will increase awareness of earthquake hazards and earthquake risks in the central and eastern US and show business and government how to better prepare.
“Earthquakes: Mean Business” is especially for those who are interested in earthquake hazards, earthquake risks, risk mitigation, emergency planning and management, risk management, and business continuity. Exhibits will provide additional information on the central US earthquake issue.
Saint Louis University will also award Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to all participants.
In the morning, speakers will address engineering, planning, geoscience, and risk management of the central US earthquake issue. Confirmed speakers include:
· Chris Poland, PE, SE; Chief Executive Officer of Degenkolb Engineers; Oakland, Calif.;
· Dr. Lucy Arendt; Organizational Strategic Management; University of Wisconsin, Green Bay;
· Dr. Sandra Knight, PE; FEMA Deputy Federal Insurance & Mitigation Administrator; Washington, DC;
· Dr. Mary Lou Zoback; Consulting Professor; Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif.; and US Geological Survey, Menlo Park, Calif., (retired).
In the afternoon, there will be a selection of break-out sessions. St. Louis University’s Earthquake Center will also be open for tours throughout the afternoon.
Registration cost, which includes lunch, parking, exhibits, and CEUs / PDHs, is $95.00.
