We are currently recruiting for a senior Geologist or Geophysicist to serve
as the Earthquake Hazard Program's Regional Coordinator for the Central and
Eastern U.S. The position is being advertised internally and externally

Earthquake Coordinator for the Central and Eastern U.S.
The U.S. Geological Survey¹s (USGS) Geologic Hazards Science Center
solicits applications for a senior scientist to serve as the Coordinator
for Earthquake Hazard Program activities in the Central and Eastern U.S.
(CEUS). The position will be located at either the Center for Earthquake
Research and Information on the University of Memphis campus, or the
USGS office in Golden, Colorado. The successful candidate will have a
demonstrated record of research expertise in the area of earthquake
studies.
Applications are invited from all relevant scientific communities,
including geodesy, geology, seismology, and tectonics. Applicants must
have a thorough knowledge of earthquake hazards in continental regions and
must be capable of leading a diverse, multidisciplinary program of
earthquake risk reduction. The primary duties of the position are to: 1)
develop scientific goals and objectives for the CEUS region; 2) oversee all
aspects of the Program¹s diverse, complex investigations in the region and
coordinate these activities among the relevant university, State, and
private sector entities; 3) lead the USGS staff in the transfer of
earthquake information and research results to a variety of technical and
non-technical users.
This is a permanent position open from August 9 through September 17, 2010
and comes with an annual salary, depending on qualifications, ranging from
$96,690 up to $147,857. The vacancy is interdisciplinary and open under the
following titles and announcement numbers: Supervisory Geologist
(CR-2010-0418 & CR-2010-0419), Supervisory Geophysicist (CR-2010-0420 &
