Dear Colleague,
We would like to invite you to participate in establishing a
multi-institutional multi-disciplinary working group for a Borehole
Geo-observatory in the Central US. We have established a working group
website at http://www.ceri.memphis.edu/borehole/ and will hold a two-day
workshop on May 3-4, 2007 here in Memphis. The purpose of the website is
to inform interested scientists, engineers, and institutions about the
working group and provide a forum for discussing relevant issues. The
purpose of the workshop is 1) to define scientific targets and
priorities, and 2) to develop a strategy to best implement and sustain
the observatory.
Please visit the Borehole Geo-observatory website to learn more about
the planned observatory and working group, and indicate your interest in
participating. Then provide information about your research interests
and what kinds of geological, geophysical, and geotechnical datasets you
are willing to share via the working group. As indicated above, we hope
to have preliminary discussions about key topics and issues prior to the
workshop via this website.
Hotel information for the workshop is also available at the website. You
will need to make your own reservation under the name “Borehole
Workshop” at the Fogelman Executive Center, 901-678-5410. The workshop
rate is $90 per night plus tax. The hotel reservation deadline is April
1st, so plan accordingly.
There are a limited number of travel grants for up to $500 available for
attending the workshop. They will be available on a first come, first
served basis.
Thank you for considering participating in Borehole Geo-observatory
working group and workshop. Also please recommend this workshop to
others that might be interested in the working group.
Sincerely,
Arch Johnson Chris Powell Chuck Langston Arleen Hill Chris Cramer
