Earthquake Insight Field Trip Planned for October 12

 

            The fourth Earthquake Insight Field Trip will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007.  This annual outreach event is part of the St. Louis Area Earthquake Hazards Mapping Project and is especially for non-scientists, such as business leaders, elected officials, media, risk managers, portfolio managers, lenders, and continuity planners.  

 

Field trip participants will learn about the earthquake history of the central US and current exposures to earthquake hazards in this area.  There will also be informal discussion during the field trip about progress and findings of the St. Louis Area Earthquake Hazards Mapping Project.

 

The one-day field trip is hosted by the US Geological Survey, the Illinois State Geological Survey, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the University of Missouri - Rolla, and others.  Stops will include sites in Missouri and Illinois that show geologic evidence of past large earthquakes and engineering solutions that directly affected the St. Louis region.
