NCSN has had no problems with Basalts (I think we got lucky and missed the batch with the bad CF cards). I know Jim Smith and the NSMP has had many issues but mostly all related to the CF card issue that Doug mentioned, and have fixed most of the problems with new cards.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USGS - Earthquake Science Center - NCSN Field Operations Manager

We currently have 19 basalts running in our network (8 have internal decks). We are running either RockToEW or RockToSlink depending on the age and location, and one running in Altus Emulation mode. We have several units that are bench testing as well.

In addition to unit with the power failure that Marc Biundo mentioned, we have one other unit that had a timing problem (the system clock was not syncing with the GPS and had an error message RockFrontEnd: Large OS Time adjustment requires reboot). Kinemetrics has repaired the unit with the timing problem and the only note on the Repair Report was that they replaced the CF card.

Initially we had experienced issues in the past with rebooting but they have been resolved with Rockhound version 3.11.

We have also had issues with box cars and noise with the internal Basalts on older units where the magnets do not have a nickle plate. Tom Yelin has more details on this problem.

Regards,
Lynn
I have been hearing that some groups are experiencing problems with Basalts, so I am fishing here for more stories of Basalt
failures to see if there is something we need to bring up with the manufacturer.
If you have been having issues with Basalts, can you send me some details such as number of occurrences and failure mode (disk,
networking, power, software, etc.)
Thanks,
