Just got back from the field. VLF designs manufactures several
customizable battery management systems. all the specs schematics
and operating information and a price list can be found at
<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.dropbox.com">www.dropbox.com</a>. log on to <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:vlf@cablerocket.com">vlf@cablerocket.com</a> the password is vlf
designs. the unit was designed specificaly for powering seimic
systems. the bc-12b has two sets of inputs which can be a dc 15-18
volt power supply, and a solar panel up to 120 watts. alternately a
second solar panel can be connected where the power supply would
normally be connected. the unit has a temperature compensated hybrid
switching type regulator in its battery charge system to minimize
heat generation, followed by a post regulator to remove any spikes
from the switching regulator or limit load voltage during low
temperature charging. The linear post regulator is followed by 2
low voltage disconnects that are set to shed loads at different
battery voltages in order to maximize critical load longevity. all
thresholds are user adjustable and further customization is also
possible at no cost. VLF designs has built custom hardware for 30
years, specifically designed to solve problems for network
operators. We also build custom low noise transient suppression
hardware and analog telemetry system hardware. if you have any

Kyle,
Thanks for sharing. We haven't moved to MPPT charge controllers yet
just due to the costs. It's still hard to find a good one in the
$200-300 range, but even then that's quite a bit cheaper than what
Betatron is charging for all the extra packaging. At that price I
don't see us moving that direction at this time, but thanks again for
sharing. It's a nice looking unit, though. I'll stick with my $50
Sunsaver with LVD for now, although I can definitely see the
advantages of MPPT for some of my extreme-weather sites.

<pre wrap="">All,
Would anyone be interested in using the PASSCAL developed Power
Management Module (PMM). This solar charge controller and power
switcher box for a 12 VDC system are in wide spread use with
PASSCAL. I believe they have about 1000 of them deployed and we are
considering buying some for our various projects.
The GenaSun MPPT Charge Controller appears to be robust and the
temperature specs are great. The battery low voltage disconnect for
the batteries is a big plus. PASSCAL has packaged everything into a
NEMA 4 box and it is very water resistant.
The boxes are assembled right here in Albuquerque by Betatron for
PASSCAL. They run in the $600-700 range depending on order size.
See the attached.
