[ANSS-netops] Polar Projects Engineer at the IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center

The IRIS PASSCAL Instrument Center at New Mexico Tech is seeking applicants to fill the position of Polar Projects Engineer. Primary responsibility is to support Polar research both in the field and in the lab. Duties include: engineering, building, scheduling, preparing, and shipping equipment; field support both in the Arctic and Antarctic; development of specialized equipment for cold, dark environments; produce and maintain documentation and web content related to Polar support; and user training. This is a fixed term, three-year appointment (beginning October 1, 2010) with the possibility of extension as funds become available.

 A B.S. in Engineering is required. Willingness to travel to Antarctica and the Arctic is required. Experience with field data-collection systems; wireless communications, installation and network design; DC power systems; time series data formats; and seismological fieldwork are desirable.  A demonstrated proficiency in CAD modeling and drawing is required.
