When we wrote that (many years ago), ShakeMap was only running on Solaris, and we had recently got it running on FreeBSD. We did not mean to imply that there was a port (as in the ports collection), only that the code had been "ported" to FreeBSD. It now runs on various versions of Linux and Mac OSX, as well, but again, the installation is the same. <div><br></div><div>We do have a version running on a virtual machine using the Virtual Box software. Let me know if you'd like to pursue that. It's easy to get it going, but be advised that we can provide very, very little support for the VB system itself -- you'll need to do your own system management, diagnostics, etc. We can only help with ShakeMap itself.<div><br></div><div>The version of the manual I sent you is the most recent. You should utterly disregard any earlier manual, especially if it deals with V3.0 or earlier. The old software is absolutely not recommended, and we can't support it. As you'll see in the newer Software Guide, the current software comes from a subversion repository, not a tarball download like the old version.</div><div><br></div><div>Bruce</div><div><br><div><div>On Nov 27, 2012, at 5:09 PM, ÎâÊåÀ¤ wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html charset=GB2312"><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">thanks for you help Bruce.I just curiously that manual v3.0 mentioned that "developers <span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> have completed a </span><em style="color: rgb(221, 75, 57); font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">port</em><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> of </span><em style="color: rgb(221, 75, 57); font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">ShakeMap</em><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> to the </span><em style="color: rgb(221, 75, 57); font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">FreeBSD</em><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> operating system, and this version of </span><em style="color: rgb(221, 75, 57); font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">ShakeMap</em><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); "> (V3.0 and up) will run on </span><em style="color: rgb(221, 75, 57); font-style: normal; line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">FreeBSD</em><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); line-height: 16px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">.
