[Shake-dev] problems with grind

Dear Bruce and Wan,

In follow-up to our issues with grind, we checked out revision 172 (we  
were earlier at revision 157), and the grdmath problems went away, but  
the problem with sm_nearneighbor remains. grind seems to abort  
prematurely.
