The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) seeks candidates for the full-time position of Senior Science Advisor for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards. This is a SL position with a salary range of $119,554 - $165,300 per annum. This announcement closes on February 21, 2012.<BR>

The Senior Science Advisor for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards is responsible for planning and implementing monitoring, assessment and research activities supported by the Earthquake Hazards, Global Seismographic Network, and Geomagnetism Program. The incumbent will advise the Associate Director for Natural Hazards across a wide range of geologic hazard issues and ensure that the geologic hazard focused programs within the Mission Area are fully collaborating. The incumbent will also provide consultation for senior officials of the Department, other Federal and State agencies, universities, and private-sector organizations regarding highly controversial and sensitive issues. The leader of the USGS earthquake activities is one of the highest visibility positions at this bureau. When disaster strikes, the world turns to USGS for answers, and this SL position will be tasked with coordination of the USGS response, high-level briefings for White House, FEMA, DOI and other government leaders, and international entities. This individual also serves as a primary spokesperson with national media.<BR>

To be considered, you must have specialized experience that is directly related to the duties described above, and you must meet the education requirements for the one of the following job series:<BR>
<BR>
Physical Sciences—applicant must possess a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.<BR>
<BR>
Geophysics—applicant must possess a degree that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).<BR>
<BR>
Geology—applicant must possess a degree in geology plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology and cartography.<BR>
