Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Engineering Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking, early career professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Seismic Network Systems Specialist.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment.

The Seismic Network Systems Specialist will provide expertise to the INL Seismic Monitoring program and support seismic safety of INL nuclear operations by performing the following.

• Serve as a technical resource for installation, operation, problem solving and maintenance of the INL Seismic Monitoring network digital instrumentation and computers, digital communications, computing systems and power supplies
• Collaborate with other INL Seismic Monitoring personnel to design and specify seismic system components including instrumentation, communication links, power supplies, and data acquisition and analysis computers for field and office applications
• Develop, evaluate and analyze seismic system design requirements and recommend upgrades of the seismic network
• Perform field installations of seismic system designs under varying environmental conditions and verify that the end product (data) meets expectations of the Seismic Lead and programmatic requirements
• Recommend, develop, and test improvements for the INL Seismic Monitoring system and technical procedures using innovative ways and ideas to collect and assimilate earthquake data
• Plan, assess, and apply a wide range of digital seismic instruments and system approaches for the INL Seismic Monitoring Program or other INL seismic-related programs
• Assist with the generation of reports, occasional research publications, and proposals, and assist in the interpretation and application of earthquake data for assessing INL seismic hazards
• Perform any other related duties as may be required by the Seismic Lead or Department Manager



Qualifications


Qualification Requirements:

  *   Bachelor degree in geophysics, seismology, computer science, earth science, physical science, or engineering plus 0-2 years’ experience; or an Associate’s degree in the same areas plus 4-6 years’ experience is required.
  *   Seismic monitoring network or geophysical field work experience is preferred.
  *   Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an active DOE "L" clearance
