[ANSS-netops] Verizon - Important information about transition to IPv6

Mark, that is exactly right. Routers, modems, and other IPv6-enabled
equipment should generally be able to translate public IPv6 addresses to
private IPv4 addresses. I've attached an example diagram showing how an
IPv6-addressed acquisition server could connect to an IPv4-only datalogger
behind an IPv6-addressed cell modem. One could imagine similar NAT taking
place on the seismo lab side if the acquisition server itself does not
support IPv6.

Caltech has been working on adding VPNs to our field data connections -
this would be an alternative to using NAT. The public VPN endpoints may
have IPv6 addresses, but they connect two IPv4 networks together. So
neither the acquisition server nor the datalogger need to support IPv6.
