[ANSS-netops] automated text alerts

Mitch,

I think David is referring to our SNPP pager system. We use the freeware
package "qpage" to send pages to internal users. Qpage is easy to set up
and works well. Unfortunately, the reception of pages isn't very good in
our area, so a lot of pages are dropped or come out garbled. An advantage
to SNPP is that it uses dial-up modems and POTS lines, so pages will likely
be sent even if there is a network meltdown.

Thanks Dave. We do exactly the same thing. Its that self-notification for
the small group of internal users that I'm talking about. Relying on "the
cloud" for it makes me nervous.
