[ANSS-netops] USGS Surplus equipment can be donated to other agencies

We were "gifted" with 27 SSA-1 and SSA-2 dataloggers in 2006 by the USGS-Menlo. Woody Savage was the person who gave them to us. So, I know it can be done, and there is a USGS form for it. We'll take the Mark Products stuff if nobody else wants them.

Hi Dave,

It would be great to build a Christmas tree out of them. Say, can
USGS transfer equipment to non-USGS entities? I do not think so. I
tried this before and failed.

Similarly I have a number of L22s (3 comp) and L4Cs (single
comp) that I am planning to surplus. Most have connectors to the
old 72A-02, 07, 08 RefTek dataloggers. I may keep several of each
though. So wondering if any other USGS entity has an interest.

Thanks,
Mark

It is possible to transfer equipment from USGS to a non-USGS entity. Or
at least its been done before (and followed the rules).

I also have a number of FBA-23s as well which have the old RefTek 72A-02
type connectors on the cables. Some cables are damaged on all systems
described and not sure of their functionality. We have not used these
seismometers since the 1990s at Northridge-CA, Mississippi Embayment,
Trinidad-CO, Izmit-Turkey.

HI Dave,

Is there anyone from AVO on this list? Guy Tytgat (now at PASSCAL) indicated that these may be of use up in Alaska.

Just a thought.

HI Mark,

If you can't find any takers within the USGS for the L22's and L4C's, PASSCAL would be interested. This way, they still stay available to the community.

Let me know.

cheers,

Kent
